Fredrick Melwin
Social Worker
Hi I am Fredrick Melwin
My journey began as a Mathematics student. On weekends, I used to volunteer at a school for deaf and mute children, teaching moral classes. I wanted to dedicate myself to helping these vulnerable children, that changed my life forever—a mathematician became a social worker.
I’ve been on this enjoyable journey for more than 18 years.I pursued my MSW and M.Phil. in Social Work. My professional career started with the Tsunami Project at Project Concern International in Nagapattinam in 2006. Later, I joined a Home-Based Care program for people with HIV in Salem, an experience that broke down all my stigma and discrimination., I was the Child Development Coordinator at World Vision India in Chennai, where I learned firsthand about the challenging lives of pavement dwellers.
My work has taken me all over India. I’ve served as a Program Development and Information Coordinator in Pudukottai and a Technical Lead for five years in Ranchi, Jharkhand. I’ve also worked as a Technical Specialist in Patna, Bihar. For ten months, I was the Program Manager at Seva Samajam Children’s Home in Chennai, and now I’m a Project Coordinator for the JAMS Project at SCARF.
I’m a nature lover. I also love books, especially Bible studies, and I believe travel is a wonderful teacher. The most valuable lessons I’ve learned from my travel experiences. I find that overcoming challenges makes us stronger., I love listening to Christian songs, beautiful sounds of the accordion, harp, and violin.
